3 Tips to Help You Finish a Self-paced or Home Study Course

We understand that everyone cannot be in an all-day class or commit to a certain time each week to be in a class. For this reason, in addition to tele-class and onsite training, we offer a self-paced, home-study version of our certification. There are advantages and disadvantages of self-paced courses.

The biggest advantage is flexibility. The most prevalent disadvantage is that unless you are self-motivated, self-disciplined, and a good steward of your time, distractions and lack of motivation will be the stumbling blocks that will keep you from getting to the finish line.

Here are some strategies to help you finish a self-paced course.

  1. Understand why you’re completing the course in the first place. The reason has to be something that will keep you grounded or your reason will be like steam coming from boiling water. It’ll evaporate rather quickly.
  2. Carve out time to devote to the coursework and have a set schedule. No matter what stick to that schedule.
  3. Find a trusted friend, mentor, or coach to hold you accountable. Let them know what you’re doing and to “snatch” you back on course when you start to veer off. This person can’t be whimpy because your excuses will overpower them.
  4. Pray and ask God to give you the strength and wisdom to stick with it and press to the finish line.
